Gabrielle Fine is a Seattle-based photographer. She has been studying photography for 15 years. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, she was influenced by art from an early age and introduced to artistic expression. At first self-taught, she supplemented her learning experience with classes and workshops at the ASUC Art Studio in Berkeley, California, where she had her first solo exhibit in 1996. Gabrielle then spent a year of more formal education at the California College of the Arts, studying photography as well as life drawing, before deciding to move to the Pacific Northwest in 1997.

After moving to Seattle, she enrolled at the Seattle Central Community College, where she completed many independent study projects in photography, honing her skills in black and white printing and photojournalism. In Seattle she was also a member of the (now defunct) Okada Fine Arts Gallery and co-operative. In 2000, she participated in a group show in Olympia, “Images of WTO,” exhibiting photos from the 1999 protests against the World Trade Organization in Seattle.

Gabrielle completed her Bachelor of Arts in fine art at the Evergreen State College in 2002. During that time she completed many photography projects, one featuring a book of passenger train photography. Her intention in this work was to open a window to the romance of train travel. The self-produced book featured black and white and color photos juxtaposed with text. She continues to shoot train photos whenever she has a chance to travel, and is hoping to eventually publish a book of these images.

After graduating, Gabrielle moved back to Seattle and continued shooting and printing new work. A class in Lith printing, an alternative process, opened a new window of exploration in her work. She applied this technique to a new body of work titled “the Mysteries,” photographs of ethereal, otherworldly and holy places. In 2005 and 2006 she exhibited this work in several Seattle locations. In 2007 she began to experiment with combining traditional photographic processes and new digital techniques. Her most recent project, Disappearing City, explores the vanishing terrain of a rapidly changing urban landscape.
